KIHI ON AN IMPROVEMENT PATH
By Graham Potter | Friday, January 20, 2023
The three-year-old filly Kihi had continued to show progressive improvement since resuming for her second preparation and she found her reward in her third start back when taking out a QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate over 1100m at Dalby on January 20.
The daughter of Deep Field only had one run in her first prep in which she finished unplaced.
She was the then put out for five months and returned in with a similar ordinary performance over 1050m at Toowoomba on June 18 ... but, her second-up run brought marked improvement as she ramped up her performance to claim a runner-up finish, coming home just a length behind the winner in a Maiden Plate over 1000m at Toowoomba on December 22 at a starting price of $11.
She then franked that improvement by making no mistake in the run at Dalby a month later, where she started a warm favourite at $4 and saluted by a clearcut 1.50 length margin with Karl Zechner in the saddle.
