WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, MARCH 11. 2023
By Darren Winningham | Friday, March 10, 2023
Eagle Farm this week with nine. The track is rated ‘Good’ and the rail is out 6 metres for the entire circuit.
History was created last weekend – a dark day in Australian sport when every QLD team won in round 1 of the NRL competition. SHAME! It will not occur again in 2023 – mark my words!
FLEMO was crowing after the BRONCOS jagged a winner. Michael Hellyer had plenty to say when Manly beat my very unlucky Bulldogs – the banter has forced me to block him on social media – such a bad winner! No doubt there will be plenty others blocked as the season unfolds!
Sensational effort last Saturday when Ben Thompson rode the first four winners on the program!
Straight into this week’s preview!
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
Too hard this race – however, the Desleigh Foster trained Guchi Diva (5) looked like she was looking for more distance after her debut run here three weeks ago – Georgina Cartwright will ride again. Looks well placed.
Selections:
5 – Guchi Diva 2 – Mr Caleb 7 – Mishani Ambitious 6 – Crimson Warning
Race 2
Lovely Esteem (9) has had a month freshen up after being run down in the shadows of the post at Doomben. Samantha Collett retains the ride for Chris Waller Racing.
The Red Kite (2) is on the quick back up after an excellent win last weekend here over the mile. This weekend Mark Currie has gone for the claim with Angela Jones to ride. He goes up in the weights – however, the win last weekend was full of authority.
Whitewater (3) has been screaming out for this distance – keep safe – could be a dramatic improver.
Selections:
9– Lovely Esteem 2 – The Red Kite 3 – Whitewater 4 – Tenzing
Race 3
Probably fortunate that Ken Callander is not calling this race – the box could be a mess after the race if my trifecta salutes – all the horses names start with the letter “S”.
Santero (7) was beaten last time out by Sagacious (3). I think that he can turn the tables this weekend. I don’t think that Sagacious (3), with Angela Jones to ride again, will get such cheap sectionals in the race and there is a small field here.
It will be a great battle over the final 100 metres if these two horses go away and fight out the race – Angela Jones versus Jaden Lloyd – both exceptional apprentices in Brisbane.
Selections:
7 – Santero 3 – Sagacious 6 – Stuck With You 1 – Fast Talking
Race 4
Could be a trap this race. Be careful about the chances of the Munce Racing runner – Southern Stock (3) around the $25 mark who has won twice from three starts when third up. Justin Huxtable in the saddle as well – could cause a huge upset.
Kopangi (7) won here three weeks ago over this distance for Chris Waller. Samantha Collett retains the ride – should be hard to beat again here.
Miracle Spin (11) from the Matthew Smith yards in NSW gets to a distance that should be suitable – second up here with Stephanie Thornton in the saddle.
With International Women's Day being celebrated last Wednesday – may the celebrations continue here with either Stephanie or Samantha getting the job done here.
Selections:
7 – Kopangi 11 – Miracle Spin 3 – Southern Stock 2 – Warp Speed Rough chance – (1) Clyde
Race 5
Only a small field here to face the starter over 1000 metres, but a very competitive race with all runners having a genuine winning chance.
Legal Esprit (4), who is from the Donald “Ducky” Baker stable, has a terrific record first up and he does love this Eagle Farm track. Adin “Notorious” Thompson has a wonderful association with this gelding, and he will be looking to consolidate those stats.
Boomnova (3) is trained by Chris Munce and always goes good second up. Samantha Collett goes back aboard, and she has two wins from four starts aboard the mare.
Rubiquitous (6), trained by Chris Anderson, gets into the race well at the weights – keep safe.
Selections:
4 – Legal Espirit 3 – Boomnova 6 – Rubiquitous 2 – Proper Rogue
Race 6
First leg of the Quaddie over 1200 metres.
Last weekend Annabel Neasham and JAG Guthmann-Chester combined with a win. They unite with Manhood (8) who resumes here. Is undefeated with two wins from two starts first up. Drawn handy and a solid recent barrier trial would suggest he is ready to fire here.
Enterprise Pomme (11) is trained by Matthew Hoysted and Steven O’Dea. It was O’Dea’s birthday on Wednesday and the stable managed to train a winner at Doomben. Maybe he can celebrate some more if this mare can win this race. Nikita Beriman will ride for the stable. She rides the mare for the first time.
Fastconi (5) won last time out at the Sunshine Coast for Chris Waller – Jimmy Orman is fresh up from a short spell after being married. They combined last time out. The gelding has had a six week freshen up and a recent trial under his belt. Could be a value runner.
Selections:
11 – Enterprise Pomme 8 – Manhood 5 – Fastconi 10 – Ned’s Gully Rough chance – (6) Mill Rossa
Race 7
First leg of the Treble. A race over 2406 metres.
These races are always a lottery – maybe time to grab some afternoon tea or watch the NRL whilst this race is on.
On recent efforts the Ben Ahrens trained Two Smokin Barrels could get the job done – Samantha Collett will ride.
Zippy Power (10) is trained by Kris Lees Racing with Kyle Wilson Taylor aboard. Comes off a solid win at a Sunday meeting at the Sunshine Coast – could step up here and go well again.
Selections:
5 – Two Smokin Barrels 10 – Zippy Power 2 – Tappy’s Lad 3 – Scarlet Tufty
Race 8
Think there could be a rough result here for punters.
Speak Up (12) is trained in NSW by John O’Shea and Angela Jones will ride. A last start maiden winner at Wyong posting some good sectionals – maybe can cause an upset here and win in QLD.
Cranky Harry (8) is trained by Jack Bruce and will be ridden by Corey Bayliss. He won at this track and distance three weeks ago at a midweek meeting – he could go on with it despite stepping up to weekend company.
Brookhaven (7) is second up here for Munce Racing – steps up to a more suitable distance.
Diana’s Affair (5) won for Kelly Schweida Racing stables last time out at Ipswich – despite being $21 in the markets, I think he could be a rough chance with Taylor Marshall to ride.
Selections:
12 – Speak Up 8 – Cranky Harry 7 – Brookhaven 5 – Diana’s Affair Rough chance – (11) Suisse Scandal
Race 9
It is the last race over 1400 metres.
Gollan Racing pair Da Party Girl (7), to be ridden by Stephanie Thornton, and Briars Kingdom (3), to be ridden by Angela Jones, both have genuine chances.
I like one from the Annabel Neasham yards – Gwan So (9) with Sam Collett to ride. He is second up. I just think at $17 he is an awesome each way chance to win the last race. There will be some serious speed in the race. This runner loves to settle mid field and then storm home. Steps up in distance from the first up effort. I think whatever he does here this weekend he will be better over a mile – just think the tempo of the race sets the race up nicely for him.
Thatfeelsbetter (12) is trained by O’Dea & Hoysted Racing with Jaden Lloyd aboard. Narrowly beaten here three weeks ago – look for some improvement – has been well supported since the markets have opened.
Selections:
9 – Gwan So 12 – Thatfeelsbetter 7 – Da Party Girl 3 – Briars Kingdom Rough chance – (6) Petunia ______________________________________________________________________
Jockeys Challenge
Looks like it is a day for the girls – with Samantha Collett and Angela Jones to fight it out. On paper Samantha has the chances to win – she may be a good price as well.
