SHOTGUN SAM BLASTS A WINNING TRAIL AT DALBY
By Graham Potter | Saturday, April 22, 2023
Shotgun Sam doubled his tally of winners in his first start for Tony and Maddysen Sears scoring by a 0-55 Handicap over 1100m at Dalby on April 22.
The very lightly raced Tycoon Ruler gelding has only had nine starts but he is already in his third stable having raced twice for Mark Currie and six times for Donald Baker, where he landed his first career win.
Micheal Hellyer chased Shotgun Sam out of the gates in a start where a number of runners were keen to go forward, eventually settling the grey in a positive position, sitting third along the inside just a couple of lengths off the leaders in the early part.
That deficit doubled on the fast approach to the home turn as Penny Stocks ($10) and Saturday Glory ($10) tried to steal a break on the field, but Shotgun Sam remained committed to the chase and was within striking distance on straightening.
When Penny Stocks began to tire early in the run home, Saturday Glory was quick to pounce on that one, but Saturday Glory, in turn, had no time to enjoy the lead as Shotgun Sam fired up alongside that runner before edging clear to claim victory by a neat length.
