RHILL FEB 27 - CHANCE BYE SECURES SLIPPER START

By Scott Gooley | Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Rosehill, February 27, 2010.
Track - Good 3. Rail - Out 6m.
Silver Slipper Stakes (Group 2 - 2yo - Set Weights). Time: 1-04:28.
1 Chance Bye; 2. Ambers Waltz; 3 Zutara.

The fairytale story surrounding two year old filly Chance Bye, has continued to grow after she secured her place in this year’s Golden Slipper by winning the Group Two Franklins Silver Slipper (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

Bought for $15,000.00 by her Kembla Grange trainer Mick Tubman, the unbeaten daughter of Snitzel has now amassed $473,300.00 from her three starts to date.

Chance Bye ($1.75) began quickly from an outside gate for her jockey Kathy O’Hara and after travelling 200m, the pair were leading comfortably a length in advance of debutante Military Blonde and Intertidal.

O’Hara had the filly travelling comfortably as they ran past the 600m, maintaining her advantage over her rivals.

Straightening for the run home, O’Hara asked Chance Bye for an extra effort and the filly responded by immediately extending her lead.

With 200m left to run, Chance Bye had established a three length lead. Her nearest rival was Amber Waltz ($12) who, after being ridden midfield, was closing at a steady rate wider on the track.

Although Amber Waltz was able to reduce the margin at the finish to a length and a half, the result was never in doubt.

Third went to the fast finishing Zutara a further three quarters of a length away.

Chance Bye has now installed as the favourite for the Golden Slipper to be run on Saturday, April 3.

WINNER FEEDBACK:
Trainer Michael Tubman: “She is just getting better ... and she was short of a run today too. She is a fighter. We’re in it now (the Golden Slipper). They’re in trouble.”

Jockey Kathy O’Hara: “She was impressive again. She is obviously an exciting type of filly, but what about the job Mick (Tubman) is doing with her.

“It’s no fluke. The first time he said she was a good thing and, you know, it is not easy to keep a two-year-old going as long as he has. Even though it’s only had the three starts it’s been five weeks between every run and that’s not easy, yet he’s got it down to a tee.

“He’s only got the one two-year-old and he has got to look after it. He is doing an excellent job.

“She is very, very fast. She gets to the front. She coasts. She pricks her ears and does it pretty comfortably.

“She was still a bit soft today, she’s still got plenty of improvement, but that was perfect. The big one is still to come.

“She can run out the six furlongs, no worries. She’ll be spot on no doubt.”

PRICES:
Chance Bye (1.75 favourite); Ambers Waltz (12.00); Zutara (13.00).

STEWARDS REPORT EXTRACT:
Zutara was slow to begin. On jumping Divorces, which was slow to begin, was hampered when crowded by Corvidae, which shifted in, and Zutara which, after also being slow to begin, was taken out by Run For Wilson. Mafia Miss jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

C Brown, rider of Ambers Waltz, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that near the 900m he shifted in when insufficiently clear of Mafia Miss, resulting in Mafia Miss being taken in onto Divorces, which lost its rightful running when tightened between Mafia Miss and Zutara.

In assessing the penalty, Stewards took into account that Mafia Miss contributed to the incident by
shifting in, after Ambers Waltz was straightened by C Brown, which exacerbated the interference to Divorces.

C Brown’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of seven days, such penalty to be served cumulatively with his penalty incurred at the Royal Randwick meeting on 26 February 2010 and, as a result, this suspension will commence on Friday, 12 March 2010 and expire on Monday, 22
March 2010, on which day he may ride.

Trainer Mr G Ryan stated that Intertidal was stepping up in class today and he felt that it may be better suited over more ground. A post race veterinary examination of Intertidal did not reveal any
abnormalities.
