MUNCE TO FACE FRESH STEWARD'S INQUIRY

While trainer Chris Munce has been preparing Palaisipan, who finished fourth in the Stradbroke, for a crack at the Group 1 Tatts Tiara on Saturday, Queensland Racing Stewards have been preparing a new inquiry brief which has now had a sequel with both Munce and his son, stable foreman Corey Munce being told to attend a steward’s inquiry on July 3,4 and 5.
This will be an entirely fresh inquiry from any ground covered before in this matter, with a new steward’s panel being convened to conduct the process.
The origin of this matter dates back to October 2020 when CCTV footage was seized after an inspection of the Munce stables, a move which subsequently led to Munce being charged and suspended for three months for alleged treatment to Lady Brahmos. That ban was then reduced to a $5000 fine after an internal review.
In July 2022, following an on-going investigation into the footage, Munce was hit with a total of eight additional charges, six of which were relating to allegedly, ‘injecting racehorses within one clear day of them racing with the other two being being for allegedly ‘administering an alkalinising agent to horses on race day’. Corey Munce was charged with two counts of alledgedly ‘being a party to the administration of an alkalinising agent to horses on race day.’
With the new inquiry being ordered to collect and weigh up evidence from scratch, all of those charges have now been vacated by stewards with the process to begin again on the July dates as directed.
