WINNO'S KILCOY KASH: KILCOY, JUNE 29 2023
By Darren Winningham | Tuesday, June 27, 2023
A massive 8 race program on a Thursday at Kilcoy with the track rated ‘good’ and the rail is in the true position for the entire circuit.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
“Muppy” Hellyer has found his way back to Kilcoy to ride one for Darryl Hansen – Remanded (10). To be fair he does follow Manly in the NRL – that should be enough to see him locked up – or “remanded in custody”! I think the filly found 1350 metres at Doomben too far last start – back to 1200 metres and handy on the speed – look for a bold improvement.
Selections:
10 – Remanded 6 – Ancient Mission 7 – Miss Zermat 1 – Egalit
Race 2
This race is a match race between the top two for me. Sea Palling (1) is trained by the astute Barry Lockwood and will be ridden by Justin Huxtable – third up here looks ready to win.
Birague (2) is trained by Paul Butterworth with apprentice Emily Lang will ride. Last start winner at Dalby – led all the way on that occasion – a performance like that will see him hard to hold out again.
Selections:
2 – Birague 1 – Sea Palling 3 – Sly Corner 4 – Chanel
Race 3
Skilled Artist (8) was a last start winner here for Alan Boyd. On that occasion she was ridden by Montana Philpot – she retains the ride here. The ride on that occasion was superb and she got some breaks in the straight. With the weight difference against some of the other runners, she looks well placed.
Kelly Schweida has He’s The News (2) engaged with Justin Huxtable riding. Raced on the speed last start at Beaudesert and won impressively. He looks the likely leader and must carry 61 kilograms – this may be the only issue late as they find the winning post.
Selections:
8 – Skilled Artist 2 – He’s The News 6 – Miss Cinnamoncider 1 – Bandit
Race 4
Selections:
3 – Crimson Reward 12 – Enolaba 8 – The King Slayer 2 – Cee Eye Cee
Race 5
First leg of the Quaddie
Solid chance here from James Hepworth stables – Jumeirah Triangle (9) with Montana Philpot to ride. They combined here last start over 1900 metres and won easily. Stepping up in distance to 2076 metres will not bother this gelding who was strong to the line.
Keep your eye on the Pat Duff trained Bring The Stars (7) with Justin Stanley to ride. Duff rarely brings a runner to Kilcoy and does not leave with the cash and his baked loaf of bread – he will run out the distance – will just need some luck in running.
Selections:
9 – Jumeirah Triangle 7 – Bring The Stars 8 – Cloudy Miss 3 – Bad Influence
Race 6
First leg of the treble. A massive field – a maiden over 1200 metres – this is a tough race.
Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted bring a Proven Thoroughbred syndicated gelding to Kilcoy to win his maiden. He seemed to peak on his run first up at Dalby. Look for an improvement here with the stable apprentice Emily Lang to ride again.
Tajiri (5) is trained by Billy Healy. Forget the last start at Sunshine Coast where something went horribly wrong. The previous start was here when he got too far back, but made some good ground late to finish a great second – Tiffani Brooker will ride.
Selections:
7 – Extortionist 5 – Tajiri 12 – Bronze Memory 16 – Cruising Bill
Race 7
Tough field this – my top 3 selections – any one of them can win.
I have gone for the two veterans of racing (this will get me in trouble for sure).
Dale Smith the jockey – he must be due to retire again soon – and astute trainer Wendy Bannerot combine to attempt to post back-to-back wins with Little Vista (7). First up was well supported here and just seems to run out of fitness late. Then went to Warwick and won a race over 1100 metres.
Sterlington (8), trained by Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted, is third up here and if he is to win a race soon this looks ideal pickings for the stable.
Money Bear (10) is trained by Group 1 winning trainer Chris Munce – hot on his success of winning the Tatt’s Tiara last weekend. Justin Huxtable rides again. He broke his maiden status at Dalby over 1100 metres and could go on with it here.
Selections:
7 – Little Vista 10 – Money Bear 8 – Sterlington 6 – I’m Hitchin’ Bro
Race 8
The last race of the day! A tough way to finish the day as well over 1200 metres for the fillies and mares.
Like the chances of the Michael Morrison trained Steal The Field (6) with Justin Stanley riding from barrier 2. She will be better second up after a solid hit out at Ballina first up.
O’Dea & Hoysted have another solid chance in Secret Memo (9) to race with Emily Lang to ride. Will race on the speed and has drawn well.
Roman Reign (11) won last start out here at $51 – on that occasion she was taken to the lead, and she gave nothing else a chance and won impressively. She will not be that price here. She is drawn well again – apprentice Olivia Webb should bounce her out and take up a forward position.
Selections:
6 – Steal The Field 9 – Secret Memo 3 – Super League 11 – Roman Reign Rough chance – (12) Star Of Couteau _____________________________________________________________________
Jockey’s Challenge
Tough field this week – Justin Huxtable, Montana Philpot, Michael Hellyer and Emily Lang all have some nice chances. I think that the girls will battle it out with Emily Lang just beating Montana Philpot.
