WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, AUGUST 5, 2023

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, August 3, 2023

EAGLE FARM – Nine races. At the time of writing the track is rated ‘Soft’. The rail is out 5 metres for the entire circuit.

Just selections. It is a busy week.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

Class 3 over 1000 metres.

Special mention here to Matthew Palmer – probably needs a GPS to find his way around the new Eagle Farm track! He will ride the Ethan Ensby trained Maximum Vortex (1) who was back to form last start over the Grafton Carnival – this runner will jump run and set a merry pace in front – can he hold on late?

Devastating (6) was unlucky when resuming – taken on at a vital stage in the race – this week will settle and be given every chance by Jimmy Orman – he is trained by Tony Gollan. These two are the winners of the jockey and trainer premierships last season and they both had a flying start to the new season at Doomben on Wednesday – much respect.

Selections:

6 – Devastating
7 – Hard To Say
2 – Nashira
1 – Maximum Vortex
Rough chance – (8) Rainbow Connection

Race 2

Distance race over 2200 metres – only a small field.

Selections:

5 – Shameless Miss
3 – United Nations
2 – Kirkeby
6 – Mirann

Race 3

BM70 over 1200 metres. Another small field.

Selections:

3 – Tango Fever
2 – Kitri
4 – Crimson Warning
5 – Watchguard

Race 4

BM85 over 1000 metres.

Hold On Honey (6) resumes from a 20-week spell and a solid recent barrier trial win. Trained by Steven O’Dea and Matthew Hoysted - will be ridden by Cejay Graham with a valuable 2-kilogram claim.

Bel Academy (5) won the Kirby over the Grafton Carnival by leading and running them into the ground with a super time. A performance like that again would see him a great chance again at $21.

Selections:

6 – Hold On Honey
5 – Bel Academy
9 – Kat Chinna
2 – Dalavin

Race 5

Last leg of the early Quaddie. BM72 over 1200 metres.

Tough field this one – very open.

Selections:

5 – Field Wiri
3 – Deep Rouge
10 – Allegreta
11 – Amathuba
Rough chances – (4) Boho Beauty & (14) Lady Wardell

Race 6

First Leg of the Quaddie. BM72 over 1200 metres.

Zarastro (2) debuted in QLD for his new stable Gollan Racing last time out. Very unlucky going down in the final stride. Has a large weight to carry but does look well placed – again Jimmy Orman will ride.

Orbalent (13), from the Kris Lees Racing yards, has won his past three starts. First run in QLD and at Eagle Farm with Andrew Mallyon aboard looks like the only one that may upset the short-priced favourite.

Selections:

2 – Zarastro
13 – Orlabent
8 – Our Magnus
9 – Corona Lad

Race 7

First leg of the Treble. A No Metro Win over 1400 metres – these are always tough to find a winner.

Selections:

11 – Brentwood
7 – Petunia
4 – Bean Foggy
8 – Smytzer

Race 8

Open class over 1400 metres.

Selections:

5 – Better Get Set
9 – Major Artie
7 – Lasting Kiss
10 – Hot Spring Gold

Race 9

The last race of the day – a massive field over 1600 metres.

Selections:

11 – Seefeld
8 – Titanium
1 – Rejoiced
7 – Redwood Shadow
