NOTHING WRONG WITH PLACING THEM WHERE THEY CAN WIN, WHEREVER THAT MIGHT BE

The Tony and Maddysen Sears training partnership generally finds a way to get a horse to win irrespective of its level of ability it is currently showing ... and sometimes that success arrives far away from any mainstream focus ... as was the case with the four-year-old mare Red Shiraz, who won her eighth start at a non-TAB meeting at Warra after making the 128km trip from her home base at Toowoomba.
Red Shiraz had four places from her seven pervious runs to her credit when she tackled a QTIS Maiden Plate over 1200m at Warra on August 26, having been tried at Toowoomba, Gatton, Goondiwindi and Nanango without saluting, but the Sears team found the right race for her here in what really became a ‘no contest’ as Red Shiraz, a $3.50 chance with Leeanne McCoy aboard, trashed her opposition in no uncertain terms, beaten the second placed $2.50 favourite The Snuggler home by a whopping 5.30 lengths.
Nothing to get too excited about in real terms, but that all important win had been put on the board and the Sears team’s placement of Red Shiraz in the Warra contest gave her the opportunity to not only win well, but also to hopefully help build the confidence of the lightly raced four-year-old moving forward.
