GALWAY HUSSLER CLAIMS HER THIRD WIN IN FOUR STARTS SINCE THE START OF THE NEW SEASON

By Graham Potter | Saturday, September 16, 2023

A good break at the start and a quick forward move straight into a comfortable rails run in second place three quarters to half a length behind the early leader Approval ($5) was all the $2.50 favourite Galway Hussler needed to set up yet another victory for the KO Racing ownership and the Corey and Kylie Geran training partnership. … this time in a QTIS Three-Year-Old BM60 Handicap over 1200m at Dalby on September 16.

Gallway Hussler would not have been short of confidence coming into the race the three-year-old filly had already won two of her three starts this season, but the Geran Team was testing her rate of progress yet again, increasing the distance test from 1100m to 1200m while also asking the daughter of Husson to carry 2kg more than she powered home with in her previous, last start win at Gatton … going up to 59kg from 57kg.

Once Gary Geran had Galway Hussler in prime position, he was content to let his mount take the trail behind Approval, even allowing that runner to cross Galway Hussler, but then quickly switching his mount one off, tracking a line hard to the outside of Approval to ensure he would have a clear run to the line when he wanted to ask Galway Hussler for her finishing effort.

That moment came at the 400m mark (approaching the home turn) where Geran pushed Galway Hussler forward, attacking Approval and edging into the lead on straightening.

Galway Hussler didn’t have any real peace in the run home, but she crucially always held the upper hand on the chasers and, although Tijuana Two Step ($4.60) and Frozen Mile (the $3.60 second favourite) did get within 0.30 and 0.70 lengths of her at the death, they were flattered by those margins as Geran only pushed Galway Hussler out hands and heels over the last 50m.

Adding further lustre to Galway Hussler’s continuing winning run was the fact that she gave the runner up 5kg at the weights and still had Tijuana Tow Step’s measure.

Since she learnt how to win in her first start as a three-year-old, Galway Hussler has gone on in leaps and bounds.

She currently has a race record of three wins and four minor placings from eight career starts.
