WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, SEPTEMBER 30, 2023

By Darren Winningham | Thursday, September 28, 2023

EAGLE FARM this week with nine races this week, the track rated ‘Good’ and the rail out 4 metres for the entire circuit. The forecast is for some warm weather on the weekend – maybe time to consider a trip to the beach on Sunday.

On Saturday – I must go for Collingwood to win by 8 points.

In the NRL on Sunday – I am going for Penrith by 14 points.

No premierships for QLD this season!

Time to look at the program.

NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 1

A 2200 metre race to start the day – always a lottery these events.

The Chris Waller Racing’s Mighty Willie (8) with Mark Du Plessis to ride looks a solid chance. Stepped up from a midweek win to Saturday grade for the first-time last time out on this track and was beaten in a blanket finish.

The David Vandyke trained Without Revenge (3) led throughout in the Lismore Cup – got run down late. Looks well placed and Justin Huxtable’s vigorous riding will ensure if he is a chance late, he will get past the post first.

Selections:

8 – Mighty Willie
3 – Without Revenge
2 – Galifianakis
5 – Namakwa

Race 2

The two-year-old babies step out here and the whingers will be upset again with Les Ross Racing having seven runners.

I think the Annabel Neasham first starter to be hard to beat – that’s Metcalfe (2) with Damien Thornton riding, but the Kelly Schweida stable has been in great form – a winning double at Ipswich on Wednesday – maybe his good fortune can continue with his debutant here Zelezny (4). Comes off some strong trial form and Cejay Graham will ride.

Selections:

4 – Zelezny
2 – Metcalfe
5 – Mishani Express
7 – Mishani Voltage
Rough chance – (6) Mishani Invincible

Race 3

BM70 over 1200 metres. Only a small field.

Addiel (8), trained by Annabel Neasham, has been trialling well and resumes here from a 20-week spell with the tongue-tie going on. His run in the Group 2 Champagne Classic was solid prior to being sent for a spell. A recent trial winner and with Damien Thornton to ride. He looks a solid bet.

Oceans Of Energy (7) from the Matthew Dunn yards could be one to run a bold race at big odds - keep safe.

Nothing wrong with the favourite who was smashed in the betting last start here - Show No Mercy (2) from the Stuart Kendrick stables. His partner in crime of late Bailey Wheeler will ride. The blinkers go on here – look for an improved showing.

Selections:

8 – Addriel
7 – Oceans Of Energy
2 – Show Me Mercy
3 – Action

Race 4

BM70 over 1500 metres.

Barry Lockwood trains Maurice’s Medad (7) who had his first start for the stable here a fortnight ago. Jake Molloy will ride him here and he should be better suited by the extra distance. He has a terrible barrier to contend with – barrier 17 – he will need some luck from out there.

I like the speed and the times that Cusack (10) has been posting at Rockhampton in his recent wins. He is trained by Jared Wehlow and Justin Huxtable has been booked to ride. He raced well here a fortnight ago and the extra distance should assist.

Selections:

7 – Maurices Medad
5 – Dark Harmony
1 – Regal Pom
17 – Sunset Soiree
Rough chances – (10) Cusack & (16) Mission Of Love

Race 5

Last leg of the Early Quaddie.

No Metro Win over 1400 metres. A massive field – anything can win.

Steven O’Dea and Matt Hoysted train Naval Trader (17) who has been knocking on the door to post a win. Heavily backed last time out when he ran into one better and finished second. This race looks ideal and will be given the run of the race by Ben Thompson.

Drammatica (18) is from the Gollan Racing yards. I think she has been crying out for this distance – keep safe as I expect she will be storming home late with apprentice Cejay Graham in the saddle.

The other runners are good odds – I like my first 4 selections to post a motza win!

Selections:

17 – Naval Trader
18 – Drammatica
16 – Twice On Sunday
12 – Vetta Velocita
Rough chances – (13) Moveitforward

Race 6

First leg of the Quaddie – open field here over 1820m at Class 3 grade.

Kokonotsu (3) sees Tony Gollan and Jimmy Orman pairing up. These two are lethal when they unite. This runner has won his past two starts here impressively – there is nothing to say the hat trick should not occur.

Sebring Girl (5) is trained by Stuart Kendrick and Bailey Wheeler will ride. These two are the other lethal combination in racing recently. This mare won well here over the mile last time out. The way she got to the line late suggested that she would be best suited by the extra distance.

Satay Chicken (11) – just want to say I love eating Satay Chicken! This gelding is trained by Cody Morgan with Ash Morgan to ride – double trouble – the two Morgans! I think deep into his preparation he may pop up here at huge odds – then it will be winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Selections:

3 – Kokonotsu
5 – Sebring Girl
11 – Satay Chicken
7 – Contribute

Race 7

The first leg of the treble – a BM75 over 1000 metres.

I like Flaming Conquest (3), trained by David Murphy and with Georgina Cartwright in the saddle to cause an upset here. She leads and gives you a great sight for your investment – I anticipate that she will be large odds and if they are leading and winning on the track – she will give you a huge sight!

Beast Mode (6) is trained by David Vandyke with Justin Huxtable to ride. This runner resumed on this track in a midweek meeting nearly a month ago and was super impressive winning the race. Since then, a solid barrier trial on his home track where he won. He has been heavily backed since the market opened – the stable rarely misses out when they put their money on.

Immoral (2) a topical tip – it would be exactly that if the Broncos win the NRL Grand Final on Sunday!

This runner is trained by Tony Gollan and Jimmy Orman will ride. Has had a freshen up since his last run at Doomben and could sprint well fresh.

Selections:

3 – Flaming Conquest
6 – Beast Mode
2 – Immoral
8 – Maximum Output
Rough chances – (12) Lime Soda

Race 8

An Open class over 1600 metres.

I think that the race is between two runners Tidal Creek (8) and Shibli (9).

Shibli (9) is the way I have gone – trained by Chris Waller and Damien Thornton will ride. A solid win at Doomben last time out over a mile. He is up in grade – down in the weights, if he handles this Eagle Farm track surface, I think he has a tremendous chance at odds to win.

The stable mate is Bullfinch (3) with Jimmy Orman to ride. I think last time he resented the quick back up – just one week between runs. He has had a three week freshen up and could race well.

Tidal Creek (8) is trained by Stuart Kendrick with Bailey Wheeler aboard. They combined with this gelding three weeks ago to win a feature race at Doomben – on that win he must be respected. Granted he goes up in class, but down in the weights and has the added bonus of the three kilogram claim for Wheeler.

Selections:

9 – Shibli
8 – Tidal Creek
3 – Bullfinch
5 – Indispensable

Race 9

Well, it is the last race! A massive field over 1200 metres at BM85 level.

The Tony Gollan trained Zarastro (4) - with Jimmy Orman riding - looks a solid way to load up and head home cashed up. He is looking for a hat trick of wins at the track and distance and looks ideally placed.

Ekaterina (5) is trained by Robert Heathcote. She is a high-class mare and they have elected to go with the claim for Bailey Wheeler first up here. I think the only drama is that she needs genuine speed in her races as she gets back in the field and flies home late. I just think that Orman will control the speed and not go that hard with the likely leader Zarastro (4) and this may affect here chances.

The Vowels (1) is a lovely horse trained by Edmonds Racing. He has drawn wide in barrier 18 – Cejay Graham will ride him for the first time. He could be one that causes a major upset. He sprints well fresh.

Selections:

4 – Zarastro
5 – Ekaterina
1 – The Vowels
15 – Nashira
Rough chances – (13) Lord Markel

Jockeys Challenge

Looks like an open field with several riders having genuine chances. Bailey Wheeler, Jimmy Orman, Cejay Graham, Damien Thornton, and Mark Du Plessis – reckon a dead heat between Wheeler and Orman.

WINNO V FLEMO

The battle continues with WINNO and FLEMO. FLEMO will be crowing IF his Broncos can win the 2023 NRL Premiership – however, when they lose I will be talking smack for months! Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
