WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, OCTOBER 7, 2023
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, October 5, 2023
EAGLE FARM this week where we have the first weekend of a trail series of ten races on a Saturday. Looks like a long day. The track is rated ’good’ and the rail is out six metres for the entire circuit. The forecast is for some rain leading into the program – I do not think it will have much effect on the track.
A few popular wins last weekend with Collingwood and Penrith beating the QLD teams. A special mention to all those Bronco supporters who will remain nameless who messaged me declaring the 2023 Premiership when they were 16 points in front – I do remind you that I have called your team the “BRONCHOKERS” for many years – as they CHOKE!
Time to look at the program.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
No Metro Win race over 1000 metres. Only a small field.
Some speed in this race despite the small numbers.
Hold On Honey (2) produced a gallant effort last time out in Class 6 grade running a narrow second. He is from the Steven O’Dea and Matt Hoysted yards. Boris Thornton will ride – looks a solid chance.
The Stuart Kendrick and Bailey Wheeler team posted another winning double last weekend. They unite here with Lost In Transit (3) who has won his two starts since resuming from a spell on his home track on the Sunshine Coast. The times have been impressive – the 3-kilogram weight claim for Wheeler may turn the tables late.
Selections:
2 – Hold On Honey 3 – Lost In Transit 1 – Dragon Miss 7 – Clover’s Prince
Race 2
The two-year-old runners race here.
The Barry Lockwood first starter Moet At Midnight (4) has been trialling well – looks well placed – drawn barrier 7 with Jaden Lloyd to ride.
Kahlisee (5) is trained by Chris Munce and Samantha Collett will ride. A solid effort in a recent barrier trial and some heavy support in the markets since they opened would suggest that this filly has some ability.
Les Ross Racing is looking to continue his domination in the two-year-old racing by claiming his third consecutive win of the season. Mishani Fire (7) was well supported on debut in Toowoomba, and I expect him to be fitter for that effort and extremely competitive here in this race - Anthony Allen will ride.
The Anabelle Neasham first starter is I Doubt It (13) with Damien Thornton to ride. I like the effort in the trial recently at the Sunshine Coast - expect a bold showing here.
Selections:
4 – Moet At Midnight 6 – Kahlisee 7 – Mishani Fire 13 – I Doubt It Rough chances – (8) Mishani Storm & (1) Brazen Act
Race 3
The first leg of the early Quaddie with ten races on the card.
BM68 over 1200 metres. Tough affair this race.
Standing Order (5) resumes here from Gollan Racing – Jimmy Orman will ride. A recent barrier trial winner. Looks a solid bet in this class.
Ready For Anything (1) from the Matthew Dunn yards looks the likely danger with Damien Thornton aboard.
Selections:
5 – Standing Order 1 – Ready For Anything 4 – Brocky 6 – Draft Day
Race 4
The three-year-olds over 1400 metres for the QTIS money!
Defcon (6) from the Mark Kropp yards was a solid second in the Toowoomba Guineas – that is good enough form for this race. Samantha Collett will ride. Second up looks like he will go great.
In Evidence (1) raced last time out at Doomben over 1350 metres – the extra distance may suit. Bailey Wheeler will retain the ride.
All Valour (3), trained by Desleigh Forster, is third up here after winning when he resumed – may have suffered the second up yips – look for an improvement here with Kirk Matheson to ride.
Selections:
6 – Defcon 1 – In Evidence 3 – All Valour 2 – Booming Lad
Race 5
BM80 over 1830 metres.
Kronenbourg (5), trained by Gollan Racing, was a dominant winner at Toowoomba. Jimmy Orman retains the ride – looks like a solid win for him if he can run out the distance.
Fifth Position (2) is the stable mate – Ben Thompson will ride. The gelding worked home late over 1810 metres last time out. Another effort like that will see him right in the finish.
Menazzi (9) is trained by Stuart Kendrick and Robbie Dolan, recently relocated from NSW, will ride. Last time out just hit the front a little too early and was run down in the final stride over 1810 metres. Will be right in this race – may even be a great each way chance to knock out the more favoured runners.
Selections:
5 – Kronenbourg 2 – Fifth Position 9 – Menazzi 3 – Red Wave Rough chance – (7) Holstein
Race 6
Last leg of the early Quaddie. BM75 over 1200 metres.
A last start, impressive winner from the Robert Heathcote Racing team – Outlawed (13) should continue on his winning way. The win at Toowoomba was solid – slaying the opposition. That was in fillies and mares’ class, however, the drop in weight is appealing and Ben Thompson will ride her again.
Daytona (8), trained by Tony Gollan, will be looking to spoil the Heathcote party. This gelding is having his second start for his new stable. I think he will show some improvement – Jimmy Orman will ride. He has won his second up start previously.
Pocket Full (1) won the last race on Toowoomba Cup Day – storming home late to get the job done. Trained by Stuart Kendrick and Bailey Wheeler aboard, he will be ridden for luck and will be working home late.
Keep Storm The Fortress (11) safe for mine. Edmonds Racing trains this gelding and he resumed in a midweek race. Will strip fitter and does go well second up – Martin Harley will ride.
Selections:
13 – Outlawed 8 – Daytona 1 – Pocket Full 2 – Nashira Rough chance – (11) Storm The Fortress
Race 7
First leg of the Quaddie – open field here over 1500 at Class 3 Plate grade.
Lolly Yeats (9) may not be a chocolate, but looks to be placed sweetly by the Annabel Neasham Racing team. She had her first start in QLD here three weeks ago. She made an impact by running second to Sebring Girl and that form seems to have stood up. They have gone for a 3-kilogram claim with Bailey Wheeler being booked to ride. I think she gets the job done at around $7.
Cottee (7) is trained by Mark Currie. She got too far back at Toowoomba over 1200 metres – however, she ran on in eye-catching fashion to finish second. She has drawn terribly in barrier 22 – but, in saying that, there appears to be good speed in the race so she can probably go back and then fly home out wide. Angela Jones will ride.
Poetic Drama (11) is trained by Sears Racing. Has a tremendous race record at this track with 4 starts for 3 wins and 1 second. She was a last start winner here over 1400 metres in what was a solid run. Andrew Mallyon retains the ride – she has drawn terribly in barrier 20 – he will need some luck. She went forward last time out – she cannot get too far back here – but I think she can still finish off the race strong late.
Brosnan (16) is a NSW runner (did I remind you all NSW teams won all the Rugby League titles last weekend against QLD). He is third up here with Jaden Lloyd to ride. I cannot tip him on top nor take the $4 on offer.
Selections:
9 – Lolly Yeats 7 – Cottee 11 – Poetic Drama 16 – Brosnan Rough chance – (14) Sunset Soiree
Race 8 The Queensland Cup – Listed Level
The QLD Cup over 2400 metres.
Should I state the obvious – 0/4 last weekend in sports for you QLDers – can you win something!
The Toowoomba Cup winner Military Gambler (7), trained by Chris Munce, may just go on with it here. Damien Thornton rode him in front, and they could not run him down. I think there are a couple of runners who may take up the running in this race and he may just be able to sit in behind the speed and get a lovely trail into the race.
Desert Icon (2) is from the Chris Waller Racing team – coming off a solid placing over 2400 metres last time out at Rosehill. He was working home late to go down in a blanket finish – Jimmy Orman has the ride.
If you are looking for a rough chance to blow these more favoured runners out, I would have something on Ostermeier (12). He is around the $41 mark and not without a genuine chance. He stormed home over 2412 metres last time here and won going away – he really does love this track and has a solid record on it. They have kept Cejay Graham aboard – maybe she can post consecutive wins on this gelding and at the same time post a feature winner!
Selections:
7 – Military Gambler 2 – Desert Icon 12 – Ostermeier 3 – Fancy Man Rough chance (11) Maximum Output
Race 9
Class 6 over 1400 metres
Some last start winners should battle this race out for mine.
Chatty Lady (3) was back to her very best second up at Toowoomba for Mark Currie. Jimmy Orman takes the ride here. She thrives on this track – she looks like the winner again. That reminds me – I must have a “chat” with Jimmy Orman who was seen at the 2023 Grand Final in a Broncos jersey – an outrage!
Preach (12) is probably a topical tip with QLDers praying for better luck to finally win something this year! Trained by Edmonds Racing he was superbly rated by Cejay Graham in front and got the chocolates last time. Just not sure if he is a fan of this track – but maybe he just sets the speed in front and keeps that all at bay late.
Star Of Chaos (11) from Gollan Racing loves to lead – just wonder if the speed on with Preach (12) in the race sets it up nicely for run-on horses like Chatty Lady (3). She has always races well here – Ben Thompson will ride.
Release The Beans (5) is a genuine rough chance.
Selections:
3 – Chatty Lady 12 – Preach 11 – Star Of Chaos 5 – Release The Beans
Race 10
A 10 outta 10 day – 10 races and hopefully plenty of winners – let me know what you think of a ten-race program!
Well, we’ve got to the last race! A massive field over 1400 metres at Open class level.
Went for a roughie here to cash you all up. There is no better trainer to set a long-priced winner and pull off a plunge – Barry Baldwin. He trains Gave Us Up (13) who is second up after a solid effort first up at Ipswich where he carried a huge weight, got too far back and was thundering on their heels late. He has a solid second up record – and you know what after the Broncos were towelled up last weekend it may be a great chance for Jake Bayliss to smile if he can get this one home at $21.
Roman Aureus (7) resumed in the Weetwood and drew wide and was working home late. Brian Wakefield normally has him ready to fire early in his preparations and Cejay Graham will ride him here.
Canadian Dancer (16), a last start winner here over 1500 metres, will have Jaden Lloyd aboard. He seems to thrive at this track and must be in your selections.
Selections:
13 – Gave Us Up 7 – Roman Aureus 16 – Canadian Dancer 10 – Magic Charlee Rough chances – (15) Noah N A Deel & (9) Animate ______________________________________________________________________
Jockeys Challenge
Looks like a one-on-one battle with Jimmy Orman and Bailey Wheeler – I am still ashamed to declare Orman the winner after he put on a filthy Broncos jersey.
Early Quaddie (races 3 to 6)
1,5 / 1,3,6 / 2,3,5 / 1,8,13 - cost is $54 to $1.
Value Early Quaddie (races 3 to 6)

Quaddie (races 7 to 10)
7,9,11,16 / 2,7,12 / 3,11,12 / 7,13,16 - cost is $108 to $1
Value Quaddie (races 7 to 10)
7,9 / 2,7 / 3,12 / 7,13,16 - cost is $24 to $1
Treble (races 8 to 10)
2,7,12 / 3,11,12 / 7,13,16 - cost is $27 to $1.
WINNO V FLEMO
The battle continues with WINNO and FLEMO. WINNO got the win last weekend – however, we were in good form with FLEMO back on deck – we tipped 5 winners between us!
Oh – I forgot – the Mouth of the Mountain – Mr Anthony Collins won on Toowoomba Cup Day – haven’t heard from him either after the destruction of the Broncos last weekend – he had plenty to say up in Toowoomba!
Be sure to check the up to date and amended tips each Saturday morning on Facebook after any track changes and scratchings where I will post our selections and any late mail!
