POETIC DRAMA'S CONSISTENCY FINDS ITS DUE REWARD

The consistent, chestnut mare Poetic Drama scored the third win of her career when she was faultless when adding a BM70 over 1400m at Eagle Farm on September 16 to her list of credits.
All three of her wins have come at this city track ... and all three wins have come in her seven starts since transferring the Sears stable from Team Hawkes for whom she had sixteen starts.
Poetic Drama certainly was entitled to claim this latest win and enjoy a change of fortune after finishing runner-up in both of her two previous starts when coming home less than a length behind the winner on each occasion.
Andrew Mallyon, who had ridden Poetic Drama in those two second place finishes, was once again in the saddle here and he wasted no time in getting Poetic Drama (the $3.70 favourite) into prime position after the break, racing in third place, just two lengths off the lead, as the field went down the back stretch.
That became fourth place and now and three-and-a-half to four lengths back as the $81 bolter stepped on the gas out at the head of affairs in the sweep to the home turn.
With the leader likely to come back to them, Mallyon had Poetic Drama tracking three wide, now up to a quickly improving third place, as the leaders came to the point of the home turn.
From there, Mallyon allowed Poetic Drama the luxury of being able to produce a measured run, going through her gears in unrushed fashion, as she travelled well enough to stay in touch with the lead in the first half of the straight, before Mallyon got busier in the saddle coming through the 200m mark, pushing Poetic Drama forward to briefly join issue with the $15 chance Twice On Sunday, before she took the measure of her only serious challenger inside the final 100m to win, going away in decisive fashion by a widening 1.50 length margin.
That’s three wins and ten minor places (no less than eight of those in second spot) for Poetic Drama throughout her whole career now.
