Australian Jockey Rachel King debuted at Happy Valley in the first leg (Race 4) of the 2023 LONGINES International Jockeys Championship (IJC) and claimed victory in her first ride at the challenging Happy Valley circuit.
She combined with Australian trainer David Hall aboard Oversubscribed. After getting the gelding in a nice spot off the lead early, King then sent him forward as she turned into the short Happy Valley straight and he sprinted away to a solid victory.
King was jubilant after the races saying, βHe was probably the perfect start to riding here at Happy Valley. He looked after me and did everything for me.β
King was also in the frame with a third placing in the fourth leg of the IJC, when she partnered the John Size trained Tornado Phantom.
King finished the IJC in third place overall and secured HK$150,000, a wonderful effort for her debut in the toughest cauldron of International racing.
Speaking after her third placing in the IJC was confirmed, King added: βI think it was a good first effort. The atmosphere at Happy Valley is unbelievable and I really enjoyed it.β
What a superb effort from King against the best jockeys in the world!
