The Red Dazzler mare Dazzling Flash ($5) claimed the third win of her career when she cut down the $2.90 favourite Wowit’s Willywonka in the home straight to win a Class 3 Handicap over 1300m at Toowoomba on October 21.
The Tony and Maddysen Sears trained runner had finished in the first three places in five of her six previous starts ... including three runner-up finishes ... so the win was certainly due and deserved on consistency alone.
Nozi Tomizawa landed Dazzling Flash in the leading line at the break, but then let the speed go as he settled the Sears trained runner in fourth then fifth place in the first half of the race.
Wowit’s Willywonker was the runner up front, striding out with meaning, trying to make it an end-to- end win and, by mid-race Dazzling Flash had dropped all of four lengths off the favourite.
Angling out for a run approaching the home turn, Dazzling Flash, having cut the deficit to Wowit’s Willywonker to a little over two lengths, was slightly inconvenienced on straightening, but that made little difference to the momentum he was building, and he continued on in determined fashion, quickly moving up to join Wowit’s Willywonker with 200m left to run.
The two main fancies joined issue for a few brief strides, but it soon became clear that Dazzling Flash was going than her rival and she duly franked that superiority count by moving away to win by 0.80 lengths.
This win pushed Dazzling Flash’s earning to $114 890 courtesy of three wins and eleven minor placings from twenty-four starts.
