WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, DECEMBER 16, 2023
By Darren Winningham | Friday, December 15, 2023
EAGLE FARM this week where the track is rated ‘Good’ and the rail is out 2 metres for the entire circuit.
Been a busy week – back from Hong Kong – so I am going to be brief.
Time to look at the program.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.

Race 3
This race is over the mile at Class 6 grade.
Selections:
2 – Drive A Deel 9 – Indifference 5 – Starzam 6 – Titanium Rough chance – (7) Chayse N Artie
Race 4
This race is a BM78 over 1200 metres.
Selections:
10 – Miss Coota 5 – Maid To Fit 6 – Mishani Royale 9 – Fumiko Rough chance – (8) En Pointe
Race 5
This race is a BM85 over 1200 metres.
Selections:
7 – Sunfall 8 – Perfect Mission 12 – Pacific Atlantic 5 – Safework Rough chance – (2) Mass Destruction
Race 6
Last leg of the Early Quaddie – a race is a BM78 over 1400 metres.
Selections:
7 – Sha Of Gomer 12 – Light of Boom 8 – Hamlet Von Snitzel 9 – Stay Safe Rough chances – (11) Pacific Padrino
Race 7 Grand Prix Stakes – Group 3
First leg of the Quaddie. A distance race over 2100 metres at Group 3 level.
Chris Waller has two nice ones here. Kirikan (4) a last start winner at Canterbury over 1900 metres. He is only lightly raced and looked to have plenty of improvement left in him. The Jimmy Orman and Chris Waller duo have a very good strike rate in QLD, so keep safe here.
The stable mate is Shy Guy (3) with Mark Du Plessis riding. Has been racing consistently and should be ready to run this distance right out.
The locally trained Felix The Scat (1), trained by Tony Gollan with Ryan Maloney aboard, has been screaming out for this distance. It seems that this is the race he has been prepared for and will be right in this.
Selections:
4 – Kirikan 1 – Felix The Scat 3 – Shy Guy 6 – Imezaaki Rough chances – (5) Winsome Star
Race 8 The Gold Edition Plate – Listed
First leg of the Treble – open field here over 1200 metres at Listed level.
Robert Heathcote trains Abounding (9) and Martin Harley will ride. Second up here after being heavily supported and starting favourite at Doomben first up. Looked like she needed the run and will strip fitter. I am concerned about barrier 10 and the fact that she seems to go better at Doomben – no wins at Eagle Farm to date.
Stuart Kendrick has two solid chances here with Defiant Spirit (3) and Show Me Mercy (6).
Defiant Spirit (3) will have Ryan Maloney aboard. He is third up and I think he has been looking to race over 1200 metres.
The stable mate is Show Me Mercy (6) with Michael Rodd riding. He had a ten week freshen up. A recent solid barrier trial with an impressive win would suggests that he is set to fire here first up on a track where he has performed well. He is undefeated first up with two wins from two starts.
Deep Respect (4) is a Kelly Schweida runner with Jimmy Orman aboard. He resumed a fortnight ago with a solid effort. The first up run was over 1200 metres, and he just seemed to run out of fitness late. He would have trained on from that effort and looks well placed here.
Mishani Renegade (2) is trained by Les Ross. He loves Eagle Farm – in fact is undefeated here on the track with 3 wins from 3 starts. His form suggests that he is much better than the $41 they have on offer – could be a huge upset at value here. Mark Du Plessis will ride – and we all know how he likes to win on a roughie and destroy my exotic bets!
Selections:
9 – Abounding 3 – Defiant Spirit 4 – Deep Respect 6 – Show Me Mercy Rough chance – (2) Mishani Renegade
Race 9 Lough Neagh Stakes – Listed
Listed race over 1400 metres.
Eleven Eleven (3) is trained by Greg Hickman and Michael Rodd will ride. He resumed at Kembla Grange on a bog heavy track – he hates wet tracks and performed poorly. Second up here in a race with good tempo and a firm track look for a marked improvement – he is great each way odds at $14.
Far Too Easy (4) is an above average sprinter trained at Murwillumbah by David McColm. He resumes here after a short freshen up. A recent barrier trial at Ballina looked like a good workout for the race here. Just concerned that he is first up over 1400 metres. He does settle back and can need the speed to get him into the race. However, in saying that he is a class runner – he just needs to get back in the winner’s stalls – he has prohibitive odds at around $2.20.
Irish Songs (5) is trained by Louise White with Jake Bayliss aboard. I think the last two runs have been better than they appear on paper. He does thrive over 1400 metres and may represent a knockout chance in this race.
The Big Goodbye (6) is the 2023 Grafton Ramornie winner trained by Robert Heathcote. Robbie Dolan will ride for the first time. He has never raced over this distance; however, his recent efforts would suggest he is looking for 1400 metres this preparation. He has a solid record on this track with nine starts – 2 wins and 5 seconds.
Selections:
5 – Irish Songs 4 – Far Too Easy 3 – Eleven Eleven 6 – The Big Goodbye Rough chance – (8) Military Expert
Race 10
Last leg of the Quaddie a race over 1810 metres.
Chris Waller Racing is well represented here with Rosseau (5) and Quality Time (7).
Rosseau (5) is a last start winner with Jimmy Orman retaining the ride. I do not think the extra distance will be an issue – just that he sometimes seems to fail to fire at Eagle Farm.
Dune Forty Five (2) is trained by Robert Heathcote and regular jock Boris Thornton rides. He won well at the Sunshine Coast two starts ago prior to carrying a huge weight over the mile at Doomben. He just seems to be flat on that occasion. The extra distance will be fine, and he will be right in the finish.
Knight’s Choice (3) is a last start winner at Doomben over 2000 metres. I think he needed that win to lift his confidence. Now he has found the winners stalls again he may just go on with it. In saying that he does come back in distance – Jaden Lloyd will ride.
Jetty from the Chris Munce yards is worth something on an each-way ticket.
Selections:
5 – Rousseau 2 – Dune Forty Five 3 – Knight’s Choice 6 – Jetty Rough chances – (7) Quality Time _________________________________________________________________________
