DETTORI GIVES THE CURRENT STATE OF THE AUSTRALIAN RACING INDUSTRY AN INDIRECT COMPLIMENT

Frankie Dettori has given the current state of racing in Australia an indirect compliment.
Quoted in an article written by Sam Morgan in The Sun, Dettori raised more than a few eyebrows in Britain when he stated that, if he had his time again now, he wouldn’t start out in Britain.
"If I was a young jockey now and my weight was good, I wouldn't think twice. Prestige doesn't pay bills. Thirty years ago, when I did it, it was different, but now the world of racing has passed us ten fold,” Dettori was quoted as saying.
"I'd go to America or Australia and start a career there."
Former Cheltenham winning jumps jockey David Crosse wasn’t happy with Dettori’s stance reportedly hitting back on the Luck On Sunday television show with, "I was highly insulted with those comments.
"To come out and say this country, which has made his career, and mine, I have only good things to say about it. For Frankie to say that at the end of his career - it didn't leave a good taste in my mouth if I'm honest."
Dettori, who was seen on a fleeting visit at the Gold Coast Turf Club meeting two Saturdays ago, is practising what he is preaching, albeit coming at it from a vastly different perspective given he is, supposedly at least, in the latter stages of his career.
He is currently based in America.
