ZOUSTYLE RETIRES

Trainer Tony Gollan has announced the retirement of the eight-year-old gelding Zoustyle who bows out of racing with a proud record of ten wins and seven minor placings from twenty-eight starts with $1 008 175 banked in prize-money.

His last start third placing behind Tamerlane and stable companion Freedom Rally in The Buffering on December 30 took Zoustyle’s earning past the $1 million mark, writing another landmark achievement into his history.

The son of Zoustar was rampant early in his career winning all six starts in his first preparation including the Listed Gold Edition.

While all ten of Zoustyle’s wins were achieved on home turf ... including two wins in the Group 3 George Moore, the last of those coming as recently as December 2 ... that only tells half of the Zoustyle story.

Twelve of his twenty-eight starts came in the hurly-burly of big race action in Sydney and Melbourne where he performed with distinction with a list of credits that include, amongst others, a Group 1 placings in the Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley (when third to Coolangatta and Bella Nipotina, only 1.45 lengths behind the winner), a second and a third placing in two Group 2 contests, the McEwen and the Schillaci (behind Rothfire and Paulele, respectively) and two runner-up finishes in Century Stakes at Flemington and the Testa Rossa at Caufield, both Listed races.

Zoustyle’s record is even more impressive when you take into account the fact that he did not race, due to a ligament injury and his subsequent rehabilitation period, between his win at the Gold Coast on September 19, 2020 until his triumphant return at the Sunshine Coast a full fourteen months later on November 20, 2021 ... the day he ran a track record of 55.72 for the 1000m at the Sunshine Coast ... a record which still stands to this day.
