WINNO'S WINNERS: EAGLE FARM, FEBRUARY 3, 2024
By Darren Winningham | Thursday, February 1, 2024
EAGLE FARM for the first weekend of February. The track is rated 'Soft.' The rail is out 3 metres for the entire circuit. In recent weeks the track has played well for on paced runners and jockeys have elected to stay off the rail. So, keep your eye on the pattern of racing early!
Time to look at the program.
NB: As these selections were made prior to race-day, please check for any changes to track conditions and for any scratchings on the day.
Race 1
A two-year-old race to start off the program over 1200 metres.
Selections:
5 – Lady Bossa Nova 3 – Whiskey 2 – Enterprise Defence 8 – Shining Spirit
Race 2
A Class 1 grade race over 1000 metres
Selections:
5 – She’s A Rogue 6 – Surreal Ascot 2 – Sonny Daze 1 – Luvarchie Rough chance – (4) Gotebo
Race 3
A BM72 over 2118 metres
Selections:
1 – Ain’t He Grand 8 – Yangari 7 – Demarcay 10 – Artful Gal Rough chance – (2) Readily Availabull
Race 4
A BM78 race over 1815 metres. Looks like a battle between the Chris Waller Racing pair of runners. I like the one that resumed last time out and has been sent north second up looking for a win – Mascaret (6) who will have Jimmy Orman aboard.
Don’t underestimate the stable mate Fleur De Monde (12) with Mark Du Plessis to ride again. She seemed to hit a flat spot last time out racing here over 1805 metres and then she got going again late. She drops in weight for this run meeting runners on better terms than last time out.
Selections:
6 – Mascaret 12 – Fleur De Monde 2 – Koruto 10 – Clyde Rough chance – (1) Chayse N Artie
Race 5
A three-year-old race over 1400 metres.
Glass Of Rose (5) can be tardy out of the barriers. I just hope she can jump even with them here and on her recent form and her form on this track she should be hard to hold out. Trained by Jeff Dunn and Rikki Jamieson to ride – a family win could be on the cards.
Jealous (6) is from the Robert Heathcote yards with Robbie Dolan riding. Last start broke her maiden at the Sunshine Coast on a heavy track. Now she has found the winning post she may just go on with it.
It is a tough race – keep your eye on any late market moves.
Selections:
5 – Glass Of Rose 6 – Jealous 2 – Captain Menkel 1 – Smart Recognition Rough chance – (3) Capital Cee
Race 6
A BM68 race over 1200 metres.
Selections:
12 – Sabalenka 13 – Lennic 6 – Bad Education 15 – Lady Falvelon Rough chances – (16) Fairway Choice
Race 7
No Metro Wins race over 1200 metres.
First leg of the Quaddie.
Master Maurice (15) is trained by Mark Currie with Angela Jones to ride. Was second up last start and did a few things wrong. Missed the start and didn’t race well. I think now he is third up and drawn the rails, he is a nice each way chance here.
The Tony Gollan trained Brentwood (5) resumed and won well at a midweek race. Gollan has been successfully transitioning his midweek winners to win Saturday races like this. Jimmy Orman will ride.
Selections:
15 – Master Maurice 5 – Brentwood 7 – Brocky 6 – Hard Revya Rough chance – (16) Burning Hell
Race 8
Class 3 here is over 1400 metres.
First leg of the Treble.
Selections:
11 – African Daisy 9 – Belvedere Boys 1 – Bettcha The Crown 5 – Rainbow Connection Rough chance – (13) Ocean Zar
Race 9
Open class race here over 1600 metres.
Second up specialist The Ritz (9) gets in well here at the weights on a track where he thrives. Trained by Michael Morrison he drew terribly at the Gold Coast on Magic Millions Day. He got too far back, but made up many lengths on them late. His second up record is superb – 6 starts for 5 wins. Each way at $10 – super price for mine. Robbie Dolan will ride him again here.
Selections:
9 – The Ritz 3 – Jetty 5 – Shopping Espirit 2 – Without Revenge
Race 10
Class 6 here is over 1400 metres.
The Emperor was a solid winner over 1200 metres last time out. He raced like he was looking for further. He settled off the speed and put them to the sword late. Change of rider with Ryan Maloney to ride.
Daytona Beach (1) resumed racing for the new stable – Kelly Schweida and was flying home late. The extra distance will suit – just some concerns with him second up here.
Selections:
4 – The Emperor 1 – Daytona Beach 10 – Redwood Shadow 15 – The Cullinan ________________________________________________________________________
