JADEN LLOYD OFF TO A QUICK START IN SINGAPORE
By Graham Potter | Monday, February 12, 2024
Jaden Lloyd has wasted no time in getting off the mark in Singapore, where he recently secured a riding contract.
Lloyd came back a winner aboard the Dan Meagher trained Pacific Beauty in his fourth ride at his first race meeting in Singapore on Sunday, admitting that he needed a couple of rides to adjust to the pattern of racing in Singapore saying, “the pace is faster here.”
Part of the motivation in moving to Singapore was that there is now only limited opportunity to have that experience as Singapore racing will close down later this year.
Also, Lloyd’s father, the now retired Jeff Lloyd, rode with some distinction in Singapore and Jaden Lloyd has always been keen to add the Singapore entry on his resume.
Lloyd’s current contract is until June 22 with the likelihood that he will be offered an extension.
Sadly, racing in Singapore will come to an end when Singapore Turf Club holds its last race meeting on October 5, 2024 where the final feature race in Singapore’s 180-year racing history will be the 100th running of the Grand Singapore Gold Cup ... a race which Jeff Lloyd won in 2006 aboard Mr Line.
Will Jaden Lloyd get the chance to emulate his father with a Singapore Gold Cup win?
It is still a long way to go ... but not out of the question.
