GOLD COAST LOSES ANOTHER MEETING - A $1 MILLION RACE IS LEFT FLOATING IN THE BREEZE

A $1 million race without a home.
As inconceivable as it might seem, for the moment at least, as reported by Racenet, that is the state of play with regard to the scheduled running of the $1 million Magic Millions National Two-Year-old Classic which was due to take place at the Gold Coast in what would have been the Club’s historic first meeting under lights.
It is another setback for the Gold Coast who had already lost their Queensland Winter Carnival ‘showpiece’ meeting ... the Hollindale Stakes Day ... which was transferred to the Sunshine Coast where it now take place this Saturday.
Switching the scheduled meeting to another track is no formality with the racetrack surfaces throughout South-East Queensland all under severe pressure, many being badly in need of a rest which the congested fixture list doesn’t allow.
The more realistic solution to the immediate problem is that the $1 million dollar race will be slotted into another meeting somewhere and the rest of that meeting abandoned ... but that is just one possibility.
Whatever path is taken has yet to be decided.
Right now though, there is a $1 million race floating in the breeze.
