ONE MILLION DOLLAR RACE MOVED TO DOOMBEN

By Graham Potter | Thursday, May 9, 2024

With the first race meeting under lights at the Gold Coast being put on hold for an indefinite period of time because of the condition of the track, the $1 million Magic Millions 2YO National Classic which was to have been run at the Gold Coast's first proposed night meeting on May 24, has now been transferred to the Doomben Cup Day meeting at the Brisbane track on May 25.

When confirming that the Gold Coast meeting on May 24 had been removed from the racing schedule, Racing Queensland (RQ) also noted in its media release that, ‘RQ will transfer all up-coming meetings on the GCTC course proper to the Polytrack through until Saturday, July 20 ahead of a likely return prior to Spring.’

The rescheduling of the first night meeting at the Gold Coast will ultimately depend on the rate of progress of the required improvement with regard to the racing surface.

The Gold Coast had previously already lost their feature Winter Carnival meeting, the Hollindale Stakes Day, for the same reason.

That meeting was switched to the Sunshine Coast and takes place on Saturday.
