IT'S ALL SYSTEMS GO FOR ROMANTIC WARRIOR

Romantic Warrior faces another stiff test against a quality field in the $HK28 million FWD QEII Cup.
I caught up with the owner Peter Lau at the FWD Champions barrier draw on Thursday. He was extremely confident about Romantic Warriors’ chances saying, “He always goes well. He is consistent; He never finishes out of the first four. I am looking forward to a very good race from him.”
He went on to praise his loyal jockey James McDonald saying, “he has ridden him seven times for six wins – I am very confident!"
Lau confirmed that Romantic Warrior will venture overseas to post another international victory later in the year. This time they will take him to Japan for the Group 1 Yasuda Kinen at Tokyo Racecourse on June 2. Lau said, “he will then return to Hong Kong for a rest”.
When questioned about Romantic Warrior coming back to Australia later in the year to defend his Group 1 Cox Plate win in 2023 he said, “we will see after Japan – but probably not”.
Romantic Warrior has posted six Group 1 wins in his 18-start career – five of them in Hong Kong - and has amassed $HK127 million in prize money. He seems set to confirm his status as Hong Kong’s premier stayer, however, the emergence of the Massive Sovereign trained by Dennis Yip and who will be ridden by Zac Purton will be one looking to spoil the party.
