JACK BE LUCKY EARNS HIS PLACE IN ANOTHER FINAL
By Graham Potter | Saturday, May 4, 2024
Jack Be Lucky might only be a five-year-old, but he seems to have been around forever and he now once again line up for final ... the $200 000 Battle Of The Bush Final on June 29 at Eagle Farm ... after taking out the Battle Of The Bush qualifier at Jandowae over 1200m on May 4.
The Corey and Kylie Geran trained son of Holy Roman Emperor is an eight-time winner with no less than thirteen minor placings to his name.
He had a hot streak of form in October and November last year, winning three races in-a-row before heading into town for the first time to compete in the Country Stampede Final at Eagle Farm where luck didn’t go his way and he finished unplaced behind the $11 winner, his stable companion Mahbaby.
Jack Be Lucky (the $3.80 favourite) was second-up at Jandowae ... he had finished a close-up runner-up when resuming at Dalby ... and, with apprentice Landan Sykes in the saddle, Jack Be Lucky briefly found the early lead before being swallowed up by Dollop ($4) and Fitroy Boy ($10) who burned away to contest the lead together with Sykes electing to allow Jack Be Lucky to take the trail back in third place.
It was a relatively tightly bunched field as the runners approached the home turn and Sykes had to angle Jack Be Lucky out across the heels of Dollop on straightening to have a clear run to the line.
A touch on the accelerator by Sykes and Jack be Lucky surged into the lead at the 100m mark and, although he had the chasing pack hard at it close behind him, he got home safely by 1.30 lengths ... with only 1.50 lengths separating the next seven runners across the line.
That all translated into a pretty competitive contest in which Jack Be Lucky came up trumps.
Next stop Eagle Farm.
