WITHOUT REVENGE BACK WITH A BANG

By Graham Potter | Wednesday, July 3, 2024

Without Revenge bounced back in emphatic fashion ... second up over 1400m in a Class 6 Handicap at Eagle Farm on July 3 ... to claim his sixth career win overall and his second win in seven starts since transferring to the Corey and Kylie Geran stable.

The six-year-old son of Muhaarar had been soundly beaten when resuming from a four-and-a-half-month break at Ipswich on June 22, but he had won two out of five attempts in his second up runs before he took on this latest Eagle Farm assignment.

That statistic, coupled with the fact that Withour Revenge would strip fitter for this run were both positive factors ... and his record when he gets his preparation up to speed was another notable factor with his results since transferring to the Corey and Kylie Geran stable including a fourth place in the $750 000 The Little Dance (when less than two lengths off the winner) ... successive Listed race runner-up finishes in the Bernborough and the Tails ... and a win in the Ballina Cup.

If you wanted more reasons to expect an improved run, Withour Revenge has done some of his best work over 1600m (he does actually stay further) and the 1400m he tackled at Eagle Farm was contested on a heavy 8 track ... making it more like a 1600m contest.

For all of that though, the chances were still that Without Revenge would be tested, particularly by the likes of the $2.80 race favourite Weigall Tiger. Without Revenge was the second favourite at $5, but three other runners were $6.50 and under in a race framed by the market as being competitive.

Kyle Wilson-Taylor, who had ridden Without Revenge in the Bernborough, Tails and Ballina Cup, who back in the saddle here and he made every use of the number one barrier, jumping Without Revenge into an immediate lead before being happy to take a trail on Weigall Tiger when the favourite speared forward, wanting the lead.

These two runners held station until the turn and into the home straight where Weigall Tiger laid down a ‘catch me if you can’ challenge to the Geran trained runner ... and, for a while there, as Weigall Lad continued to kick on strongly in the first half of the straight, it looked like Without Revenge might struggle to reel in the length-and-a quarter deficit.

But Without Revenge was not going to let that pass without given everything all the way to the line and the race scenario changed inside the last 200 with Without Revenge ranging up alongside the long-time leader, and that suddenly became an unequal contest over the final 100m as Without Revenge raced away to score by a widening margin of just over three lengths.

Clearly, the rising seven-year-old is still very much enjoying being a racehorse.
